Oldies but goodies: One of the best inventory books
Here is another best book of Operations Research (OR) application with theory. Even though this book was published in 1974, it's quite comprehensive. The fundamental with extension are shown with example -as necessary. The title shows "production planning", "scheduling" and "inventory", but the contents are more on "inventory system". The fundamental of inventory system is the basic idea to apply further analysis of quantitative supply chain system. This book is a valuable resource for anyone who's interested in Inventory system, Production planning and OR application.

Paddle Whispers
Published in Paperback by Pfeifer-Hamilton Pub (November, 1992)
Author: Douglas Wood
Average review score:

A superb book
This is not a how-to book about the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). (For that look to Patricia Bell's superb "Roughing it Elegantly.") Instead, Paddle Whispers explains why we go into the BWCAW, with its often attendant miseries, at all. The BWCAW is a wonderful, magical place and Douglas Wood captures its essence in all its glory in this masterful work. It's a quick read as well, and so is a wonderful introduction for the person wondering why so many find the BWCAW irresitible.

This book will transport the BWCAW veteran back into the midst of his/her favorite memories of past trips, and will provide inspiration for those considering their first adventure in the wilderness. For those who never intend to experience the wilderness first-hand, Paddle Whispers is a wonderful, spiritual, inspiring work in its own right.

A must-read for everyone, I purchased many copies as gifts for friends.

Captures the essence of the BWCAW.
Not since Sigurd F. Olson has a writer captured the true essence of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Wood describes the spirituality and adventure of this magical place. A very quick read, full of great sayings, and stories. Perfect to read chapter by chapter (of course in front of a roaring campfire). A must read for any BWCAW veterans. It will transport you back any time you pick it up.

Paul's Early Period: Chronology, Mission Strategy, Theology
Published in Paperback by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co. (January, 1998)
Authors: Rainer Riesner and Douglas W. Stott
Average review score:

A New Standard in Pauline Studies
Riesner's work is very helpful in the study of Pauline chronology. There are several reasons to buy this book: 1) his clear survey of chronological constructs by other Pauline scholars, 2) his thorough bibliography, 3) his excellent treatment and background study of numerous events in Paul's early ministry, and 4) the clarity, thoroughness, and balance of his arguments. Riesner sets a new standard with this study, and it is very high. It ought to be utilized by all involved in Pauline studies.

A Must-Read for Seminarians!
Riesner contends (and rightly so) that the interpreter's view of the chronology of the early church will influence how the interpreter understands the theology of the early church. With this thought in mind, Riesner seeks to define, with as much supporting evidence as possible, the early chronology of the church, which is essentially a chronology of the early ministry of the Apostle Paul.

Riesner begins by surveying contemporary scholarship's contributions (and confusions) over the chronology of Paul's ministry. Two groups in scholarship emerge. One group suggests that Acts is essential to developing a correct chronology of Paul's ministry. Acts is able to do so, since it is essentially accurate in historical details. A second group tries to do with Acts, since Acts (in their view) is essential inaccurate concerning historical details. Riesner points out that nearly everyone depends, at least at some point, upon details in Acts.

Riesner recognizes a problem in the chronologies proposed in the literature he surveys: often one or two 'absolute dates' are given, and the rest of the chronological details follow from those few established dates. In the next section Riesner seeks to go point-by-point through a chronology of the early ministry of Paul, discussion the evidence at each point for particular events in Paul's life and ministry. He is wary not to merely fit a date into a chronological scheme without providing good support for that date independent of other chronological markers (if possible).

Riesner interacts with both conservative and non-conservative literature. The bibliography is massive (80 pages, with approximately 30 sources per page!), and footnotes in the volume indicate that Riesner is, indeed, familiar with the literature. He acknowledges that Acts must be used as an historical source for reaching conclusions concerning a chronology for Paul's ministry. As one example where he isn't afraid to reach a conclusion typically reserved for conservatives, Riesner accepts the South Galatian view for the destination of the letter to the Galatians.

In this review's opinion, Riesner has admirably accomplished his purpose. He has constructed a well-supported chronology of Paul's early ministry. This work is only for the serious student or scholar-it is not light reading! Riesner expects that the student knows Greek and other languages, though the work can be read profitably by English-only students. This work is a must-read for New Testament professors and any seminary students doing work on the chronology of Paul's ministry. Without doubt, this book earns a five-star rating.

Perfect Phrases for Performance Reviews : Hundreds of Ready-to-Use Phrases That Describe Your Employees' Performance
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill Trade (11 November, 2002)

Finding Fish
Finding Fish, by Antwone Fisher is an awsome autobiography of a foster child that became a very good father and served his country in the army
This story is about a boy, Antwone, who was put into the foster care system as a child. He stayed with the very abusive family for about 12 years. He didn't want to believe at the time that it was a bad place to live. But when he got older he finally realized that it wasn't agood place to be living and that the foster parents weren't letting him grow up. He was thrown out of the house at the age of 17 and was homeless in the coldest weather. If it weren't for his social worker believing in him and telling him that he could make it. He wouldn't have made it as far as he did. His message is that you have to have help to get anywere and have confidence in your self.
I liked the story. I say this because it shows how going through a tough life can get a good life in the end. I can relate to the foster care system and not wanting to move. I know what his life is like, especially when he denied some bad things but not all of them.

Phrases and a lot more
Doing performance reviews--preparing for them, filling out the form, and understanding how to make them effectively improve an employee's performance--can be a challenging task. How do you make it a positive experience, for yourself and for the employee? It's not easy. How do you let the person know he or she is not living up to the organization's expectations? Again, not easy. This book can help in doing these things. The majority of book is given over to phrases you can use in over 70 different categories of performance. Each category has five levels of phrases, from outstanding to unacceptable. Even if some phrases don't fit exactly what you're looking for, you have a place to start and you can easily modify them to fit your purposes. I also like the first part of the book on how to plan, conduct, and write a performance review. The book also has two cool appendixes. One is titled "Ten Mistakes Managers Make When Conducting Performance Reviews," and the other is "Seven Mistakes Employees Make During Performance Reviews." For a retail price of [money], this book is a great tool for anyone having to do performance reviews. Highly recommended.

The Phoenix of Prague

Nicely done for a quick read
The only problem of this book is that almost all of the Czech people talked like English, but still, the dialogue was nicely written if you could just overlook such shortcoming. The whole plot, well, it was also nicely done but too preditable. All the main characters are far too stereotyped but again, sculptered quite well for us to accept. Putting suppose-to-be-priceless paintings underground of a church with a river close by? How could anyone with common sense would store any painting in a wet--not just humid--underground vault with dripping walls? This is the only dumb thing that was illogically put into this very fluently written novel. But again, no harm done here, since you still could finish it in just one sitting, hehehe.

An exceptionally well-written thriller
'The Phoenix of Prague' is a really excellently written thriller, which I enjoyed very much. (My only regret is that it finished and none of the author's previous works seem to be readily available.) I read a lot of thrillers and mystery books, and usually the quality of the writing is just OK, even though the genre ensures that the pages keep turning quickly. The writing in 'The Phoenix of Prague', on the other hand, is a notch above the usual. I strongly recommend this book

The Pirates

The Best Book on Pirates!
I've been around, and studying pirates is a favorite pastime of mine. This book is the best I've been able to find! The only problem is it's out of print. This book contains many pictures, including ships, paintings from the pirate era, old maps, coins, and letters. It contains very very factual and articulate information, alot of which is straight from the horse's mouth (accounts from people captured by pirates) about pirates, the time era, the weapons they used, the ships they used, the ships used against them, the association between them and the US colonies, and several life stories of pirates including Edward Teach, Bartholomew Roberts, and the pirate king Sir Henry Morgan. The book is well organized, and it's packed from cover to cover, waisting little space where pictures or information can be placed. I recommend this book for anyone interested in pirates for any reason.

Pride of Imar: Book 3 of the Starquest series

Third Book in the Starquest Series.
Sheyna is the sister of Garan. She wants to come to Earth and help the rebels wounded by a machine that has left them little more that breathing corpses. She meets Malachi who is the healer for the group of rebels. Malachi is instantly attracted to Sheyna and wants to develop a realtionship with her. Sheyna is also strongly attracted to Malachi.

When they try to begin a relationship they a both kidnapped by a madman who is in command of the opposition troops. He a perverted and sick individual that uses the attraction the two have against them.

Malachi is rescued, but Sheyna is put through even more sexual abuse. Before she is rescued she experiences a repressed memory and goes into deep depression. Malachi tries to help her and so does her brother Garan, but she will not tell them what is wrong only that she wishes to go home.

Events build and Malachi finally convinces Sheyna to let him help her. They discover that she was sexually abused by her father. Malachi and Sheyna heal the damage and go on to fall in love.

Kate Douglas has done a wonderful job with this series. She gets involved with the characters and what is going on around them and to them. I hope she continues to write wonderful books.

Timeless Tales review by Brenda Gill
Sheyna leaves her home planet of Mirat to come to Earth. She is a healer, and she knows her talent could help the rebellion. Somehow she feels her destiny lies on Earth. Among her own race, she is an outcast because her bloodline isn't pure. Only her brother, Garan, has shown any love for her. Other Miratans only tolerate her.

When Sheyna arrives on Earth, she goes to work with Malachi Franklin, the Rebellion's healer. Malachi is instantly attracted to Sheyna. She affects him like no other woman ever has. He admires her unusual beauty and respects her courage and bravery. He wants her. Sheyna feels the same instant attraction and hopes that Malachi is the answer to the loneliness she has always felt among her own people.

Before their budding romance can journey into intimacy, Sheyna and Malachi are captured by Merrick White, the sadistic leader of the World Federation. Merrick White is a madman, and even his own men are afraid of him. Before the Rebellion forces can free them, Malachi is badly beaten and Sheyna is degraded, abused and left badly traumatized by the ordeal. Can Malachi convince her of his love and show her the wonderful, strong person she really is? But Sheyna keeps an even darker, more horrible secret deep in her memory, that even the strength of Malachi's love may not be able to fight.

Kate Douglas just gets better with each book in the Starquest series. In Pride of Imar, she takes a painful and traumatic subject and writes about it with skill and sensitivity. Ms. Douglas brilliantly portrays the love, respect, and need of two people deeply in love with each other and proves that love really is the best medicine of all.
